Possible Projects
This is not a complete list!
I will put everything online here that I get in electronic format, but please
do take notes from seminars. Remember, your main decision is about
who will be your supervisor, then you will be negotiating your project area
with that person.
Members of CS Staff:
Staff who spoke, in the order they spoke (to help you remember who was who!):
- JJ Bryson slides (which include short descriptions of 6 possible projects). A seventh project.
- JH Davenport projects - spoke of factorizing & the Semantic Web.
- D Duke - spoke of visualisation.
- NN Vorobjov projects.
- D Richardson - spoke of neural networks and liquid state machines.
- JP Fitch projects - spoke of sound & music.

Barry - spoke about learning classifier systems, visualization, artificial
life, writing a simulator & writing a calander program.
- C Willis and D Paddon projects spoke about L-systems, sunspots, shadows and other graphics projects.
- C Furman projects spoke about email, predictive text and visualizing proofs.
- P Hall spoke about the intersection between vision & grahics, and also machine learning.
- J Padget spoke about several projects concerning agent technology.
People who didn't speak:
- R Bradford projects visited us on Monday after lecture.
- D Pym
projects is looking forward to being assigned random students who don't get their
first choices!
- Many HCI lecturers didn't because they have their own MSc
program. But if you are very interested in HCI you might want to contact
in person H Johnson or E O'Neill. Notice that at least five non-HCI
lecturers so far (Bryson, De Vos, Duke, Fitch and Barry) have proposed at
least one HCI project. See also the projects listed below under "Other
People".
