Things every American should know...
(yes, I'm an American! More on me.)
- Missile Defense Systems
don't work. They also destroy our real defenses: international trust
and global prosperity. They do make money for some, but
they take money from useful research and government projects.
- Switching from an average car to an SUV for one year
wastes more energy than leaving the refrigerator door open for 6 years. Another SUV page.
- In September 2001, Barbara Lee
was the only Congressperson who thought it was a bad
idea to transfer the power to declare war from Congress to the president.
It's the constitutional obligation of the Congress to debate war; last time
Congress gave that obligation up lead to Vietnam.
- The Revolutionary Association of the Women
of Afghanistan keeps an up-to-date list of "Recent reports from Afghanistan".
- How much would it take to compensate families of innocent victims of
US bombing in Afghanistan? "Afghan relief organizations suggest an average
grant of $10,000 to rebuild homes, restock
possessions, secure adequate medical and psychological care, or
compensate for the loss of breadwinners and caretakers.
Assuming 2,000 families seek compensation,
this would amount to a meager $20 million. Twenty million is less than one
day's military expense during the bombing
campaign, which cost $30 million a day." September Eleventh
Families for Peaceful Tomorrows
- Learn about Scientology (or Dianetics).
- The best supported theory in science is
the theory
of evolution. We don't understand evolution perfectly, but we
understand it better than we understand
gravity. If you don't know basic evolutionary theory, you will have
trouble understanding not only biology, but also modern theories of
society (including religion) and intelligence (including artificial
intelligence).
